Weight Loss Without Family Support

Response to family or friends not supporting your new eating choices:
What do you do when your family or friends do not support your lifestyle change? How do you handle it if they judge your new eating habits?
Do what I did, turn your frustration into determination and continue doing this for you! I’ve had family and friends try to get me to give up and go back to my old unhealthy ways. Had people doubting my decisions and talked bad about my choices. Even had “so-called” friends betting against me behind my back to see how long I would keep the weight off. I’ve realized when you take a stand and decide to make healthier eating choices for yourself, it makes others feel bad and or awkward about their eating habits and their lifestyle. As though your healthier choices makes theirs bad. One other thing to keep in mind and be prepared for is that they will sometimes go out of their way to tempt and test your discipline. To see if you will backslide. For me it was so bad that I decided to stop going around them for a while until I got stronger in my convictions. I know it can be challenging when we decide to make a lifestyle change but just focus on you and how you are feeling. Block out the noise. At the end of the day, it’s your body not theirs. Do this for you.

1. Not everyone will be happy for you and your new lifestyle change. But you have to remember why you started in the first place.
2. Try and connect with other support groups and or clubs where you can get encouragement and additional tools on being successful long term.
3. Keep believing in your choices because your future self is so proud of you and is happy about your decision to fight for your health.
