Vegan Fast Food List

VEGAN FAST FOOD:
Eating out as a vegan has become more convenient over the past few years. Vegan options are everywhere you look: you can buy Beyond Meat and Impossible Burgers in your grocery store, order a drink with a milk alternative in your local coffee shop, and depending on where you live, you can even order vegan food in a fast food joint. Here are a few examples of options to choose from when dining out next time.

TACO BELL:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Black Bean Crunchwrap Supreme (order “Fresco Style” to remove nacho cheese sauce and sour cream)

• Black Bean Quesarito (order “Fresco Style” to remove cheddar cheese, nacho cheese sauce, sour cream and creamy chipotle sauce)

• 7-Layer Burrito (order “Fresco Style” to remove three-cheese blend and sour cream)

• Bean Burrito (order “Fresco Style” to remove cheddar cheese)

• Sauce packets (Mild, Hot, Fire, Diablo, Breakfast Salsa)

• Guacamole

Other things to know: Known as a vegan safe haven for decades, most Taco Bell items can be made vegan with a few substitutions, or by ordering “Fresco Style.” Recently the chain launched an all-vegetarian menu. All of their sauce packets are in the clear, and their Guacamole is AVA-certified vegan! They even have an area of their website called how to eat vegan, that’s Super helpful, Taco Bell!

BURGER KING:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Impossible Whopper (without creamy mayo or cheese)

• Garden salad (without cheese and with non-dairy dressing)

• Apple Pie

• French Fries

• Hashbrowns

Other things to know: A couple of notes about the Impossible Whopper: make sure to order it without the cheese or creamy mayonnaise and ask for it to be made in a separate area. The fine print on BK’s website says, “for guests looking for a meat-free option, a non-broiler method of preparation is available upon request.” So don’t forget that!

Wondering about their vegan-ish french toast sticks? Burger King said they do not contain any animal-derived ingredients, but are prepared using equipment that is shared with other products that could contain dairy, meat, or fish.

SUBWAY:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Beyond Meatball Marinara sub

• Veggie patty (not available at all locations)

• Veggie Delite sub (without cheese)

• 9-grain Wheat bread

• Italian Bread

• Signature Wrap

• Subway Vinaigrette

• Sweet Onion Sauce

• Red Wine Vinegar

• Olive Oil Blend

• Banana Peppers

• Sweet Peppers

• Green Peppers

• Black Olives

• Red Onions

• Cucumbers

• Guacamole

• Jalapeños

• Tomatoes

• Avocado

• Spinach

• Lettuce

• Pickles

• Carrots

• Mustard

Other things to know: Ask any vegetarian, and they’ll tell you that Subway is pretty much a godsend. At the very least, they’ve been happily serving up subs filled with all of their vegetable toppings for as long as I can remember. And yet, they’re giving vegans a treat with their newly-announced Beyond Meatball Marinara sub — their first faux-meat, plant-based offering.

MCDONALD’S
:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Garden Salad (no cheese)

Other things to know: Don’t shoot the messenger, but in the United States, McDonald’s french fries are NOT considered to be vegan. They’re made with a “natural beef flavor” aka milk and wheat derivatives. As for everything else on the menu, McDonalds said they will make you a meat-free, dairy-free salad upon request.

** Whenever you order out you can request a sandwich with no meat or cheese and instead ask for tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and onions- (they can turn any sandwich menu item vegan/vegetarian per request)

CHICK-FIL-A:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Hash Browns

• Waffle Potato Fries

• Sunflower Multigrain Bagel

• Spicy Southwest Salad (without cheese and chicken)

• Grilled Market Salad (without blue cheese and chicken)

• Grilled Chicken Cool Wrap (without the chicken)

• Light Balsamic Vinaigrette

• Light Italian Dressing

• Chili Lime Vinaigrette

• Polynesian Sauce

• Fruit Cup

Other things to know: Surprisingly, a bunch of Chick-Fil-A’s regular menu items can be modified to be vegan. For example, the Grilled Chicken Cool Wrap comes on a vegan flaxseed flatbread with red cabbage and carrots and is basically a veggie wrap without the chicken. Plus, they have fries and hash browns that are vegan-approved.

PANERA BREAD:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Baja Grain Bowl (without greek yogurt and cheese)

• Mediterranean Grain Bowl (without greek yogurt and cheese)

Other things to know: Panera just launched a new line of warm grain bowls which include plant-based protein sources like quinoa, black beans and hummus — you just need to order them without yogurt and cheese.

AUNTIE ANNE’S:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Original Pretzel

• Sweet Almond Pretzel

• Jalapeno Pretzel

• Raisin Pretzel

Other things to know: For the pretzels to be 100% vegan and dairy-free, ask for them to be handled without butter. The the pretzel mix itself does not contain dairy, but there is a chance for cross-contamination with the tongs used to serve the pretzels.

PIZZA HUT:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Red Sauce

• Thin Crust Dough

• Hand Tossed Dough

• Pan Pizza Dough

• Buffalo Medium Sauce

• Incogmeato sausage

• Cinnamon Sticks

• Jalapeno Peppers

• Banana Peppers

• Diced Tomatoes

• Green Peppers

• Black Olives

• Mushrooms

• Pineapple

• Spinach

• Onions

Other things to know: Pizza Hut launched a new, limited edition “Garden Specialty Pizza” which includes plant-based Italian sausage from Incogmeato and also launched a round, compostable pizza box made entirely from plants.

PANDA EXPRESS:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Chow Mein

• Eggplant Tofu

• Super Greens

• Veggie Spring Rolls

• Steamed Brown Rice

• Steamed White Rice

Other things to know: The chain is currently testing a plant-based version of General Tso’s Chicken using cauliflower in certain regions. Panda Express says all items at Panda are cooked and prepped in the same kitchen with shared facilities and equipment, for those with any allergies or dietary preferences when it comes to eating vegan or vegetarian to let them know.

WENDY’S:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Plain Baked Potato with Chives (no butter, cheese, and sour cream)

• Garden Side Salad (dressing on the side, no croutons)

• Apple Slices

Other things to know: There are not a lot of vegan options at Wendy’s, unfortunately. The French fries seem vegan as they’re cooked in vegetable oil, but their website clearly states that they’re “cooked in the same oil as menu items that contain wheat, milk, and fish.” I’ve read online that people have apparently been able to order the Asian Cashew Chicken Salad without the chicken, but I would probably ask some questions before ordering. Their croutons are made with non-vegan,

DUNKIN’ DONUTS:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich on an English Muffin (without egg and cheese)

• Coffee and espresso beverages made with Almond Milk

• Hashbrowns

Other things to know: Dunkin’s Beyond Sausage sandwich was just announced that it will expand from Manhattan into 9,000 of their stores. However, you can celebrate their recent addition of almond milk nationwide.

DOMINO’S PIZZA:

Vegan items on the menu:

• Red sauce

• Thin crust

• Gluten-free crust

• Roasted Red Peppers

• Jalapeno Peppers

• Banana Peppers

• Diced Tomatoes

• Green Peppers

• Black Olives

• Mushrooms

• Pineapple

• Spinach

• Onions

Other things to know: The chain is an excellent choice for vegetarians, but vegans will need to order their pizzas on either the thin or gluten-free crust and with the red sauce. Luckily, there are a lot of veggie toppings to choose from!
